Koutamanis (computational design, Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands) seeks to create a link between architectural design briefs and concrete actions in a transparent way that explains what designers can do and why. He argues that developing briefs in detail and connecting them explicitly to design presupposes an intelligent partnership between architects and computers that makes the whole enterprise efficient and reliable by building on the particular strengths of each partner. He covers briefing and computerization, the brief as information system, visual databases, expressing briefs spatially as graphs, relationship matrices, brief and design, feedforward, feedback, constraints, analysis and simulation, and the future of computer-mediate briefing.
