Computer scientists and electrical engineers address security and privacy concerns around radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, and suggest some solutions to the dangers. So far, the technology is used mainly for keeping track of commercial inventory, but the underlying architecture could serve more sinister applications. Among the topics are RFID standards, hardware attacks, an overview of cryptography, privacy versus performance in denial-of-service attacks on RFID systems, and covert channel attacks in RFID-enabled supply chains.
