Description & Coverage
Description:

The emergence of a plethora of water contaminants as a result of industrialization has introduced complexity to water treatment processes. Such complexity may not be easily resolved using deterministic approaches. Artificial intelligence (AI) has found relevance and applications in almost all sectors and academic disciplines, including water treatment and management. AI provides dependable solutions in the areas of optimization, suspect screening or forensics, classification, regression, and forecasting, all of which are relevant for water research and management.

Artificial Intelligence Applications in Water Treatment and Water Resource Management explores the different AI techniques and their applications in wastewater treatment and water management. The book also considers the benefits, challenges, and opportunities for future research. Covering key topics such as water wastage, irrigation, and energy consumption, this premier reference source is ideal for computer scientists, industry professionals, researchers, academicians, scholars, practitioners, instructors, and students.

Coverage:

The many academic areas covered in this publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Energy Consumption
  • Evaporation
  • Hydrological Cycle
  • Irrigation
  • Machine Learning
  • Water Cycle
  • Water Resource Management
  • Water treatment
  • Water Wastage

Editor/Author Biographies
Victor Shikuku is a Lecturer in the Department of Physical Sciences at Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) in Kenya. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Maseno University (Kenya). In 2017-2018 he was a visiting scholar at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) in India under the prestigious C.V Raman International Fellowship for African Researchers. In 2019, he undertook a postdoctoral research visit at Trier University in Germany, supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He serves as the research group leader on materials research for water treatment at Kaimosi Friends University. He is also a member of the Technical Committee (TC) on Water Quality at the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS). His research entails low-carbon cementitious materials (geopolymers) and their applications in water treatment and as building materials, carbonaceous materials for water purification, environmental chemistry, emerging contaminants, food safety, biodegradation of pesticides and antibiotics in soil and associated antimicrobial resistance patterns, and climate change adaptation. Dr. Shikuku has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles including, book chapters and an edited book and is a well-cited scholar.
