The Journal of Business Ecosystems (JBE) promotes and disseminates study and understanding of business models at different levels of analysis. While the journal encourages submission of rigorous conceptual and qualitative studies, the main orientation of the journal is to attract empirical and quantitative studies using the innovative statistical technique to measure and analyze complex systems. The journal follows the holistic view of the ecosystem as described by Ludwig von Bertalanffy (1968) within the General System Theory (GST). The term ecosystem in the title of the journal is presented in the plural form to illustrate the dynamic role of multiple actors and multiple layers of networks in the complex and intergraded global business environment.
The Journal of Business Ecosystems (JBE) strives to become the leading journal dedicated to the study of business ecosystems and platforms. It seeks to attract and disseminate multidisciplinary as well as cross-disciplinary research; including research related -and not limited- to business strategy, competitiveness, marketing, Internet of Things, shared economy, and entrepreneurship in the networked economy. In addition to the previously mentioned business/management topics, JBE also welcomes technology and scientific contributions that explore the applications of new ideas in business ecosystems. Special attention will be made to attract and promote studies that utilize statistical and analytical techniques and tools to explore big data and complex systems. In absence of any competing journal dedicated to the study of business ecosystems, JBE will have the advantage to establish itself as the prominent platform for exchanging ideas on this topic.

The mission of the Journal of Business Ecosystems (JBE) is to promote the application of the advanced analytical techniques in the development and study of business ecosystems. In recent decades, we have observed the transition in competition from the ones which were based on “companies competing with each other” to the ones which are based on “supply chains competing”. We are now observing a new dimension of competition where "business ecosystems" are shaped and compete with each other. Successful companies are either creating their own business ecosystems or join/function within rich business ecosystems.
The Journal of Business Ecosystems (JBE) aims to become the leading journal dedicated to the study of business ecosystems. It seeks to attract and disseminate multidisciplinary as well as cross-disciplinary research.
