Introduction
With the proliferation of new technologies in everyday life, several application requirements have emerged in computer science areas where computer science’s systems have become more and more complex. Thus, most of computer science's research areas have attracted a great deal of attention from both academia and industry; the reason is the growing complexity. However, the carried out works in the literature are generally not yet mature and require more refinement to deal with this complexity. Consequently, new several research challenges are raised and future research directions are proposed in different areas (e.g. Artificial Vision and Image Processing, Embedded Systems, E-learning).

According to this point of view, a call for papers has been done in the first International Conference on Computer Science's Complex Systems and their Applications (ICCSA’2016) which was held at the University of Oum el Bouaghi-Algeria from 12 to 14 April 2016. Hence, the special issue carries revised and extended versions of the presented and selected papers.
